Hi, I’m Kate – founder, designer, recovering tea addict, and the slightly chaotic human behind Kate’s Clothing.

If you’ve ever wondered who dreams up all this gothic gorgeousness, well... it’s me. I’ve been running Kate’s Clothing for over 20 years now – and yes, that makes me feel ancient – but it also means I’ve lived and breathed alternative fashion through every awkward trend cycle, supplier crisis, and shipping disaster imaginable. I’ve survived four emergency warehouse moves in five years, two horrible divorces and several disasters that I'd rather forget and somehow I’m still here. Still stubborn. Still loving it.

I started this business with little more than naïve determination and a deep belief that goths (and everyone else who loves black clothing and dramatic silhouettes) deserved more than just Halloween leftovers. Over the years, Kate’s Clothing has grown into something bigger than I ever expected – a proper business, a passionate community, and, let’s be honest, a fairly large chunk of my identity.

These days, I’m still doing everything from designing our in-house Necessary Evil range to writing product descriptions at weird hours of the night and answering customer emails when I should really be sleeping. I like things done properly, which some (hi again, ex-husbands) might call obsessive. I prefer to think of it as dedicated.

At the heart of it all is a simple belief: fashion should be expressive, inclusive, and a little bit magical. I care a lot about sustainability, transparency, and treating people like actual human beings – whether they’re customers, collaborators, or fellow lovers of black clothing and ghost-shaped homeware.

If you’ve been following our journey for a while, thank you for sticking around. I'm deeply grateful to those of you who've supported this company as customers and collaborators and even just with the odd social media share (it's all helped so much). If you're new here then consider yourself one of us already. I can’t promise perfection, but I can promise passion, integrity, and a never-ending love for making things that help people feel like themselves.
